So I've been working on a few sewing tutorials the past few days and wanted to share my updates. I spent a few hours working on the art journal and almost finished it. When I was pressing it a little bit, I accidentally ironed over part of the elastic. I'm a little frustrated now because the elastic has shrunk from the heat and I have to do it over again because it doesn't look right...I'm a perfectionist at times. After this let down, I had to move on to something else. I chose to try another tutorial from littlebiggirlstudio, which is a patchwork pencil pouch. It took me about an hour yesterday to whip this together. Here is the finished product.

Now I won't lose my crochet hooks

I found this journal tutorial by littlebiggirlstudio. I think it is adorable and of course, I would like to make one. Take a look at the pictures. It looks like it will be time consuming but totally worth it. I could see myself using this as a planner or notebook. I love how there are so many pockets and room for writing utensils.

By the way, I would use this as an adult journal =)

The very first thing that caught my eye while browsing the internet today  were these beautiful pillows from Rose Hip. I enjoy crocheting and the bright and colorful pillows inspire me to make these...which I don't believe I am talented enough to do yet. As my grandmother used to say, these are "to die for".

I also want to make a  fabic notebook cover. There is a tutorial that is very simple to follow.

What is your icing?

I chose to name my blog the icing on my cake because I like the idiom. "A second great thing occurs after the first". I like to measure my life by the amazing moments. There are so many joys in life that we tend to forget or leave behind when a devastation or let down falls into our lap. Why is that? Maybe it is our culture or human instinct. We let it consume our lives in every way. We must not forget the happiness in our lives because that is what positively drives our lives. Negativity does not lead to happiness and success in one's relationships with others. I know that it is extremely difficult to be positive in the midst of sadness and anger, but we must not let it control and become us. If we do, we push away those that love us and fall deeper into the black hole of despair.

I tend to be drawn to those that choose to define their lives by elation rather than desperation. I believe this is because I am someone who looks at the positive side of everything. Why spend your life in misery and guilt? Doing so will only lead you down the wrong path. At least I believe so.

I wanted to share a cake that I made over the summer. It was a wedding cake for a two very special people. Not only were they marrying someone that they loved but they were marrying their best friend, the icing on the cake! Thank you Mel and Jon for letting me be a part of your special day.

Well here is the cake!
A five tiered white wedding cake made all from scratch.

My very first blog post

I have never made a blog before so I am brand new to blogging. I decided this morning to create one of my own. I intend to share my creative side with whomever would like to read it. One of my passions in life is to be creative. Expressing one's imagination unleashes someone's true self. To me, creativity stems from the many things in life that visually captivate me. So what captivates me? Color, texture, light, shimmer, beauty, ugliness and anything out of the ordinary.

So many people today conform to society and do not allow time to themselves. People start to lose themselves among the daily routine. Sometimes, it is extremely hard to make time for your true passions in life, but it is essential to a happy life. By starting this blog, I intend to make time for my creativity and share it with those that I know and love.
